Bochum is quite fun durring the Christmas Market. When we step outside of our door we smell walfels and mulled wine. What fun!

Fall Colours

Fall in Germany is beautiful. Today we walked through the woods to an old castle. There is a foot-ferry that runs from the castle to a small cafe near a river locks. It was a fun afternoon.

Summer Thunderstorms

Summer Storm in Bochum
(A view from my room)

When I first arrived in Germany the weather was hot (>30 C) and humid (>90%). This gave way to daily thunderstorms (something that I love to watch). Yesterday a cold front moved in and changed the feel of the city entirely. I took the picture above out of the my temporary studio apartment. Jennifer and the kids will arrive on Monday and I am definitely looking forward to having some company in the evenings.

Bochum. Oh, Bochum

This artwork came from Fritz Art and is titled Bochum Bergbaumuseum (for obvious reasons).

I have arrived for my move here in Bochum Germany (no photos yet because I am trying to fix the camera). It’s a lovely industrial area with plenty of art and theatre available. The Ruhr River is just a bus ride away and has some of the best riverside biking in northern Germany. The whole area has been made the European capital of culture for 2010. I think that Ringo Star will be staying with us (I sent him an invitation . . . still waiting for the reply).

Our New Adventure... (coming soon)

I have accepted a position that will move us to Bochum Germany. We will be there by mid July. I had hoped to start sooner but the work permit takes a certain amount of time and we cant speed it up.

Fun Times

Its been a long time since I had a chance to post anything so this is more like a quick summary.

England Adventure
There are so many thing I could say but i will be brief here because I only have a minute: We were in England for almost a year (10 months) in 2007. Moving to the UK was a fun experience but I didn't always have the best time when I was there. We moved to a small town in the west side of Surry County. We actually lived in the Lower Bourne which is a small village south of Farnham. What we found out was that South England is a fun place for picnicks and walking (The British do love their trails). You can find much more info on Jennifer's blog. My favorite place in the area was Wisley Garden.

Here we are in Wisley

This garden was close enough for us to drive to on most weekends and it represented the best of English gardening aspirations. They had an excellent library all about plants and several trails. Going to the garden helped me to feel connected to England and I will always recommend it as a beautiful place.

Back in San Diego ;)
We have been back in San Diego since February 08. I spent most of the last year working my finishing my MS degree from the university of Illinois. It tool a lot of time away that I would rather have been spending with my family. Still, I did get out and go camping. San Diego is a great place to live and I will always have great memories here.

Steve is a great clasical guitar player. Very nice to listen to ;)

Here is where I told all of the kids about how I lost my thumb to the great white.
